Apart from regular costs for children (housing, food), there are also costs incurred due to special requirements (“Sonderbedarf”). It is difficult to say in general what falls under special requirements and what does not. Examples of special requirements are, e.g., medical treatment, costs of a hospital stay, a specially justified private school education, a special education for a particularly gifted child, etc. No special requirements are, e.g., the costs for a school sports week or the costs for a bicycle, for ballet or judo lessons, or the costs of additional health insurance. Who ultimately has to bear the costs for these special requirements must be clarified in each individual case.
