Are damages for grief and shock compensated?

Deaths are usually associated with severe psychological stress for the bereaved. If such psychological injury occurs, compensation is payable as bodily injury (damages for shock). An example would be a long-lasting depression.

 

Damage that is merely due to grief for the loss, and not because of an actual deterioration of health – does not constitute bodily injury, but may be awarded in cases of gross negligence.
