According to constant case law, the monetary maintenance of children should be limited (luxury limit or also called playboy limit) so that they do not receive above-average allowances. A guideline for this limit is two to two and a half times the standard need.
The standard requirement (“Regelbedarf”) is the need that a child of a certain age has for housing, food, etc. This is independent of the parents’ income.
The standard requirement is evaluated and determined every year. For the year 2022, for example, the standard requirement for a 1-year-old child is EUR 290.00 and for a 20-year-old child EUR 650.00.
